Easy Homemade Pickled Jalapeños

If you’re looking to add a little extra spice to your meals, homemade pickled jalapeños are a simple and delicious addition. Whether you’re topping tacos, adding some heat to your burgers, or just snacking straight from the jar, pickled jalapeños are a versatile staple that your kitchen needs!

In this post, I’ll guide you through a straightforward method to pickle jalapeños at home. It’s an easy process that transforms fresh jalapeños into a tangy, flavorful condiment. You don’t need to be a seasoned chef to make these—just a few basic ingredients and a little bit of time.

What You Will Need:

  • Fresh jalapeños
  • Vinegar
  • Water
  • 1-2 tablespoons of sugar (maple syrup, sugar, or honey)
  • 1 tablespoon of salt

How To Pickle:

  1. Prepare the Jar: Pick a glass jar with a screw top lid that you want to pickle in.
  2. Make the Brine: Fill the jar halfway with vinegar, then fill the rest with water. Pour this mixture into a pot and start heating it up.
  3. Add Sweetener and Salt: Add 1-2 tablespoons of a sweetener (maple syrup, sugar, or honey) and a spoon of salt to the pot.
  4. Prepare the jalapeños: While the mixture is heating up, cut the jalapeños and add them to the empty jar.
  5. Heat the Brine: Once the liquid in the pot starts boiling, take it off the stove. Carefully pour it into the jar over the jalapeños and close the lid. Be cautious as the jar can get hot.
  6. Mix the Jar: If possible, carefully mix the jar by turning it upside down to ensure the jalapeños are well-submerged.
  7. Pickling Time: Let the jar sit out on the counter for at least 30 minutes to pickle. The longer it sits, the better the flavor will be. After about an hour, you can put the jar in the fridge.

Optional Add-Ins:

To make your pickled jalapeños extra special, you can add a variety of ingredients to the jar in step 4, such as:

  • red crushed pepper
  • garlic cloves
  • peppercorns
  • bay leaves
  • cinnamon sticks
  • cloves

Enjoy your homemade pickled jalapeños on a variety of dishes, and experiment with different add-ins to find your perfect flavor combination!
